A red alert has been issued for Delhi-NCR, which had heavy rain on Wednesday evening. The constant rain created flooding and transportation delays in the city.

Several critical roadways and numerous low-lying districts in Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) were flooded as heavy rain fell on Wednesday evening, disrupting traffic and hobbling everyday life. Due to inclement weather, ten aircraft from Delhi were diverted to different destinations.

Due to the current weather conditions, the Delhi administration has ordered that all schools be closed on Thursday.

Long lines of vehicles clogged key routes like the Delhi-Noida Expressway, Mathura Road, ITO, AIIMS, and more, causing hours-long detentions. Flooding in areas like Old Rajinder Nagar led to tragic deaths and student protests. Delhi saw record rainfalls, with 112.5 mm at Pragati Maidan and 119.0 mm at Salwan Station.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has instructed authorities to remain vigilant in the face of the heavy rain.

“Apart from ensuring minimum inconvenience to people in general, they are advised to specifically address issues at sites prone to waterlogging, including coaching centres,” he said in a reply to X.

Delhi Minister Atishi stated that the Municipal Corporation and other government organizations are striving to resolve the issue.

The minister made the following announcement: “In light of very heavy rainfall today evening and forecast of heavy rainfall tomorrow (on Thursday), all schools – government and private – will remain closed tomorrow (on Thursday)” .

TRAFFIC HIT ACROSS THE CITY.


As vehicle flow was disrupted in numerous regions, traffic police issued orders and advised commuters to avoid specific roadways.

Traffic was disrupted on the highway from Moolchand to Chirag Delhi, as well as on both carriageways of Anuvrat Marg. Waterlogging under the Savitri overpass disrupted the lane of Outer Ring Road from Chirag Delhi to Nehru Place.

Commuters coming from NS Marg towards ISBT Kashmiri Gate have been directed to take Kodia Pul and Mori Gate Boulevard Road. Traffic was also affected on Mahatma Gandhi Marg due to waterlogging at Nigam Bodh Ghat, and vehicles were being diverted from Chandgi Ram Akhara.

FLIGHTS DIVERTED

Ten flights were diverted from Delhi Airport to other locations within half an hour, from 7.30 to 8.00 pm, due to bad weather and heavy rain.

Eight of them were directed to Jaipur, and two were diverted to Lucknow.

WATERLOGGING IN MANY AREAS

Heavy rain summered several roads in the city. Stormwater drains could be seen overflowing in many locations, pumping water onto the streets.

The affected regions include ITO, RK Puram, Janpath, Parliament Street, Karol Bagh, Nauroji Nagar, Pant Marg, and Mayur Vihar, among others.Waterlogging has been observed at Gaur City, Film City, and numerous underpasses along the Delhi-Noida Expressway in Noida.

In Gurugram, water gathered on critical routes such as Subhash Nagar and Old Railway Road, among others.

A house fell in North Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi area, prompting a rescue mission. Another rain-related occurrence was the collapse of a school wall in the Daryaganj region.

RED ALERT IN DELHI.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red signal for Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) because more heavy rain is expected.

According to the most recent forecast, moderate to heavy rain was expected in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and Ghaziabad in the next hours as “clouds have converged over Delhi from all four sectors”. The wind was forecast to reach 30-50 km/h.

“Moderate rainfall accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur in North Delhi and Central Delhi.The Indian Meteorological Centre (IMD) predicted rain in New Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi, East Delhi, and the National Capital Region (NCR) within the next two hours.

Aside from Delhi-NCR, rains are expected in adjacent places like as Panipat, Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Jind, Hisar, Karnal, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nuh, Rewari, Alwar, Narnaul, Palwal, Hodal, Hathin, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, and Mathura.

Delhi traffic warning

The Delhi Traffic Police have issued advice to commuters to plan their routes carefully due to traffic interruptions caused by waterlogging and potholes.

Waterlogging has caused severe congestion on the Rohtak Road between Nangloi and the Tikri Border. Travelers should avoid the Mundka area and look for alternative routes.

Railway underpasses: Waterlogged Ram Bagh Road and Azad Market have caused traffic delays. Though the situation has improved, commuters should check for the most recent updates. Similar concerns were observed at the Zakhira Underpass and Ch Fateh Singh Marg, however the waterlogging has been resolved.

MG Road: Traffic is congested from Andheria Mor to Gurugram due to a broken-down large vehicle. Commuters should schedule their travel accordingly.

12-year-old among six killed due to rains

At least six people, including a woman and her child, died, and two others were injured as heavy rainfall paralyzed Delhi and NCR. A woman and her son drowned in Ghazipur, a boy was electrocuted in Dwarka, and three people died near Gurugram’s IFFCO Chowk due to snapped electric wires.
